I do think there are more than two ways to address escalating housing costs in popular urban centres. An additional angle might be to create legislation/zoning measures to counter rampant real-estate speculation, behaviour that drives prices higher at the expense of affordability for average workers. I do understand that this kind of policy-making would affect the profits enjoyed by developers, but it’s not like they’re the ones who are hurting to make rent every month.
