ALL IN Top matches analysis.

This past weekend we saw one of the most revolutionary wrestling events in modern times. Known as ALL IN, this event was unbelievably packed with a who’s who of independent wrestling greats and was filled with plenty of hype right from its historic announcement many months ago. Here are my thoughts on some of the big matches and moments from the event.
Beginning Thoughts
I would just like to mention that Matt Cross and Brian Cage really impressed me in their outings in the battle royale ( Cage,) and the opening match ( Matt,) I really look forward to keeping an eye on them for the near future. Also, the women’s match was very fun, it was great to see how much Chelsea Green has improved since I first saw her on Tough Enough back in 2015 she really has a future as a top women’s wrestler! Now onto my thoughts for the main attractions of the evening.
Cody Rhodes vs Nick Aldis NWA World Championship.
This was honestly really well done in terms of presentation, for example, the pre-match video package and backstage camera views as both men walked into the ring just to name a few unique elements. What this match may have lacked in physical athleticism it made up for with great storytelling and the electric atmosphere that was provided by the fans in attendance.
Some of my favorite pieces of storytelling here include Nick Aldis slowly becoming crazed and obsessed with obtaining victory which was an extremely stark contrast to the calm businessman we’ve come to know over his reign. The visual of Cody Rhodes drenched in blood just like his father was 39 years earlier, was an extremely nice nod to an older generation with an exciting modern twist thanks to the extremely brutal elbow that Nick threw in the opening moments of the contest.
Match Grade 9 out of 10
this was by far my favorite clash of the night since it had a combination of everything I love in pro wrestling.
Chicago Street Fight “ bad boy Joey Janela vs “ hangman “ Adam Page.
This was an extremely hardcore and. fun match with plenty of unique spots that were a nice extension of the “ joey killer storyline “ on Being The Elite for Hangman Page. I also really enjoyed some of the moments that Penelope Ford took part in, as she attempted to help Janela earn what would’ve been the biggest win of his career to date.
Both of these guys have a great future in professional wrestling since they both share a chaotic and crazed energy that I honestly don’t see in many individuals, the ending sequence on top of the ladder was especially brutal and felt like a fitting climax to this frantic fight! I would really love to see what Joey Janela could do if given a long-term contract with a major promotion because he truly has that special IT factor and truly made himself the star of the show for the duration that he was on screen!
Match Grade 7 out of 10
This was a good match for what it was and it was a nice change of pace from other matches on the card, adding some much-needed diversity to the proceedings at hand. Regarding the Joey Ryan segment at the end, it was a very fun moment to experience and get myself lost in despite its somewhat questionable content and honestly that’s exactly what wrestling is supposed to do so frankly I didn’t mind it!
ROH World Championship Flip Gordon VS Jay Lethal.
Heading into this match I was extremely intrigued because like the rest of the viewers I had no idea who would challenge Jay Lethal for his highly coveted championship. So finding out that it would be Flip Gordon last minute was a much-welcomed surprise!
This was a nice clash of styles from the highly experienced and technical Lethal facing off against the young highflying upstart, this was a very good way to introduce flip to those that may have been less familiar with him and give him a spotlight but he has yet to have been given in his short career.
Match grade 8 out of 10
I really enjoyed this match and it was a fine exhibition though I would like to see a rematch down the road with a more serious Jay Lethal as opposed to his Randy Savage Alter ego.
Match 4 Kenny Omega vs Pentagon JR
Closing out this review I’ll be discussing the two inter-promotional dream matches starting with Kenny vs Pentagon. Heading into this match I was extremely intrigued because I had not seen much of Pentagon JR So with this being the biggest match that I’ve seen of his career I was very interested to see how he would do needless to say I was impressed!
This match was insane but in the best way possible, thanks to the contrasting moves and varieties of amazing charisma that both of these men have. The way that Kenny sold his hurt arm throughout the match was top notch and he really shows the makings of a top attraction regardless of where he ends up.
Match Grade 9 out of 10
Chris Jericho making his surprise appearance at the end of the match was also extremely well done and I can’t wait to see what’s next for him in his new journey outside of WWE.
Kazuchika Okada vs Marty Scull
This match was honestly the one that I was most excited about heading into the event thanks to me being such huge fans of both men and it did not disappoint thanks to the wonderful storytelling and incredible action that is traditional for matches starring these two combatants.
Really loved the crowd in this aswell as they did their part rallying behind Marty with numerous loud cheers and chants as he tried to prove he could compete with the bigger New Japan stars. This was truly Marty’s first big main event test both in the storyline and out of it, he passed with flying colors and proved that he deserves more main event opportunities down the road thanks to his amazing performance here.
Match Grade 8.5 out of 10
This was my second favorite match of the night next to Cody‘s match with Nick because it told a nice story and gave the world a glimpse into what Marty and Okada can do on their biggest stage yet.
Closing thoughts
Overall despite having some slight nitpicks I personally believe that this was one of the best wrestling events from top to bottom that I have witnessed in my eight years of watching professional wrestling as a fan. I hope that this helped open peoples eyes to how healthy and great independent wrestling truly is right now!
It feels good to have all the different kinds of wrestling that we do at the moment because that means there’s something out there for everyone to enjoy and that is always great to have around! Thank you for reading and I hope this is only the beginning from here on out. <script src=”https://donorbox.org/widget.js" paypalExpress=”false”></script><iframe src=”https://donorbox.org/embed/brendansblogs" height=”685px” width=”100%” style=”max-width:500px; min-width:310px; max-height:none!important” seamless=”seamless” name=”donorbox” frameborder=”0" scrolling=”no” allowpaymentrequest></iframe>
