What is Interaction Design

Interaction design is the design of interactions between humans and the artificial. Artifical could mean anything from an orange juicer to a complex computer interface. The only prerequisite is that it is something made by humans.

The relationship between the artificial and how it’s used by its intended user, however, is not a one time instance but multi-dimensional, unfolding over time and space. Interaction design, therefore, is functionally the act of designing an ongoing conversation with the artificial (usually a product or service) and must take into account variables like the user’s needs, the user’s dispositions, and the context of use.
