As a young kid I was an alternative rock fanatic. When that movement died I was forced to find a new group of heroes. As I went off to college I was introduced to punk rock and was instantly hooked. I loved listening to bands that no one else was listening to. I loved watching the bands grow as artist from album to album. I loved watching them build a movement behind their ideals.
As an adult I have transferred this love of finding new bands to startups. To be specific FinTech startups. I cannot explain it. I just have a passion for finding and helping companies that are looking to disrupt our broken financial system.
When I first saw Vlad Tenev of Robinhood speak on stage at LAUNCH Festival, I was hooked. If you do not already know, Robinhood is a stock brokerage that allows customers to buy and sell U.S. stocks and ETFs with zero commission. When I heard this my inner punk rock kid wanted to give Wall Street the bird. Fortunately, I had the grown up restraint not to. At that moment I signed up and impatiently waited on the wait list for the product to go live.

If you have not checked out the product go download it on the app store. It is a truly well designed and has absolutely no commission on stock trades.
Last night I made the painful drive from the East Bay to Palo Alto to see Vlad speak at Startup Grind. The company has come along way from the LAUNCH stage. The company has went onto raise $66 million in capital, over 1 million users and 6 billion in asset management. Absolutely, incredible traction. I am looking forward to seeing the company they build.
For me I am looking for my Robinhood. I am starting unbank.ventures to find, support, fund and build the next generation of world changing FinTech companies. If you are building some truly great I would love to talk to you.
