From the Stands — Week 8 Picks

Have really enjoyed writing my weekly “From the Stands”. So much so that I have decided to add a smaller picks segment. The hope is that I will be more timely with both of these with my “Week in Review” coming on Mondays and my “Picks” happening on Thursday. I am really just doing this for fun so we will see how this goes. Lets do this.

Each week I will choose six games to make picks on, plus one fun one. All picks will be Against The Spread and will be found at The games I choose will be the ones that I find the most interesting and fun. All rankings are the AP. Will go with the CFB playoff rankings once they are out.

Pick Six Plus One

#10 Oklahoma State (-7) at Texas: The Longhorns have been a lot better than I thought they would be this year, especially on defense. They have a lot of dudes that fly to the ball. On the other hand, OSU has been dominate offensively using their respective dudes. Texas has kept everything close all year, even in losses. The game is in Austin and I honestly do not think that means a damn thing. Going to have to go with the Pokes on the road. Pick: OSU 37, Texas 24

#20 UCF (-7.5) at Navy: This might be the game I am most looking forward to outside of the ISU game. Crazy spread offense vs triple option fun. UCF has destroyed everyone they have played. Can the Midshipmen keep the ball away from the Knights? Yes, but I do not think it matters. Scott Frost being the scout QB for UCF does not mean anything but I do think it is awesome. Pick: UCF 45, Navy 30

#19 Michigan at #2 Penn State (-9.5): Michigan is so bad on offense. So very bad. Luckily, in my opinion, they have the best defense in the nation. Penn State has a fairly decent offense that has struggled as of late. They also have Saquon Barkley, the funnest player to watch this season. I think Penn State wins with some late game heroics by Barkley but not enough to cover the spread. Pick: Michigan 13, Penn State 20

Louisville at Florida State (-7): Two of the most disappointing teams so far this season. FSU lost Deondre Francios in the opener and have yet to recover. I am not sure that they will this year. Louisville has Lamar Jackson so they have a chance every game. This is a true toss up in my opinion. My gut says Louisville wins a fun/sloppy one. Pick: Louisville 35, FSU 27

#11 USC at #13 Notre Dame (-3.5): I am starting to think that Notre Dame is pretty damn good. Their only loss is a close one to Georgia, which is another team I am pretty high on. I am not impressed with USC. They keep winning though. Sam Darnold is awesome and Robert Jones is fun to watch. Notre Dame runs the ball very well while USC has trouble stopping it. That will be the difference. Pick: USC 24, Notre Dame 35

Tennessee at #1 Alabama (-36): This game is only interesting because of the enormous point spread. Alabama at -36 is absurd, yet also makes a lot of sense. Tennessee is real bad and Alabama is, well Alabama. I think the Crimson Tide dominates but the Volunteers get a back door cover with a late field goal. Pick: Tennessee 9, Alabama, 44

Plus One — Iowa State at Texas Tech (-7): The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been much better than I thought they would be. Certainly better than the 66–10 beat down that Iowa State handed them in Ames last year. The Red Raiders have an elite offense while the Cyclones defense has been a big surprise this year. It will be a tight one down to the end but I just think that ISU is a better team. Pick: Iowa State 40, Texas Tech 37
