“Let’s go for a drink” is so engraved in our lives, because who says “Hey, let’s just meet up as sober people and talk about stuff” — Why the fuck would you do that? “Let’s get a drink” needs no explanation. It’s a thing, everyone knows what happens next.
No alcohol, no coffee for 27 months. This is what happened.

This is definitely the case. It takes a long time in New York to find friends who are cool with not drinking or lightly drinking, but in the end those friendships are way better, and those people are way more interesting and have their shit way more together. My life is full of them, so I’m intellectually/socially stimulated even outside of work. Good luck!
