Thanks Jeff Garzik. Great summary of a fluid and complex problem. Sad to see how much thrashing has taken place since the date this was originally written, with so many of the issues standing in the way of progress still remaining as if it’s still 2015.
To many an outsider looking in — Bitcoin in 2017 resembles pure madness; a well intentioned science fair project run amok. Only time will tell what Bitcoin’s ultimate place will be in the evolution of cryptocurrency, distributed systems, society, and economics. It was the first idea of its kind to establish a firm beachhead, basecamp, whatever analogy you prefer. But often times those that establish the firm beachheads succumb to the wounds they incurred along the way, and end up dying on the beach so that subsequent waves of troops may succeed.
