Let’s Give Marcus Coloma a Chance

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Marcus Coloma showed up on the canvas at General Hospital, and Soap Twitter is already raking him over the coals.

While it hadn’t been confirmed that the role of Nikolas Cassadine would ever make a return to Port Charles, writers had been dropping plenty of anvils over the last several months leading viewers to believe it would all but happen eventually — and yesterday, it finally did.

That being said, fans of the long-running soap were hoping the role would be reprised by that of Tyler Christopher, who first joined the GH cast in 1996, and finally exited the role in 2016 when he was seemingly killed off by the villainous Valentin (portrayed by James Patrick Stuart) — and while it certainly looked like Tyler would be rejoining the cast, having dropped several hints himself on social media, fans were left underwhelmed when the mysterious masked man finally revealed himself on yesterday’s Halloween episode.

There’s no doubt that Tyler Christopher “is” Nikolas Cassadine, but given his reported struggles, I am sure there is reason as to why he hasn’t (and maybe never will) return to GH despite him saying it was a door he’d never close. Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrays the role of Alexis Davis, even alluded to Tyler having “burned lots of bridges,” suggesting there was, perhaps, a lot that had gone on behind the scenes. So while it’s certainly disappointing that we may never see Tyler Christopher in this role again, it could very well be his own doing and/or choice. Regardless of the reason, roles on soap operas get recast all the time. This isn’t the first time and certainly won’t be the last.

I also think people need to go a little easier on Marcus Coloma. If I were him, I certainly wouldn’t feel good about some of the things being said on social media. He’s barely even uttered two lines as Nikolas Cassaine and people are already forming their opinions and expressing their dismay and saying how “awful” he is. Come on, people! Let’s at least give him a chance, first — and if it bothers you that much, then maybe you need to find a different show to watch — because I doubt he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon.
