The annual Sunflower Soiree to benefit Prayers from Maria — Children’s Glioma Cancer Foundation was a rousing success! The event, held on the Superior Viaduct overlooking Downtown Cleveland, sold-out with 600 supporters. Brickhaus Brand Ambassador, Caroline Merk, was among the attendees and friends of Megan and Ed McNamara who founded the organization. Their daughter, Maria, died 10 years go at age 7 from a terminal brain tumor, called a glioma, for which there was no cure, no treatment and no hope.

Since that time, grants from the Foundation have been funding research at a number of institutions. Guest speaker, Dr. Mark Kieran, Director, Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, spoke about his research into the development of new therapies for pediatric gliomas and the resulting ongoing trials.

Brickhaus Principal Developer, Andrew Brickman, supported the cause by donating 2 round-trip, first-class airline tickets to the auction. They went for $1,900! The next day, part two of the fundraiser continued at the Sunflower Wine Festival on Old Detroit Road in Rocky River. An estimated 6,000 people were in attendance.
