In 2018 we, the Education Experiences team at Museums Victoria, wanted to do something a little different with our virtual learning program so we began exploring options where we could test and trail aspects of digital museum learning. We wanted to develop a project that:

  • was delivered entirely via virtual conferencing
  • linked directly with the digital technologies curriculum
  • encouraged a dialogue between multiple schools and Museums Victoria
  • took place over multiple virtual learning sessions
  • supported teamwork and communication building skills
  • motivated young minds to think creatively and playfully to solve real world problems, or just, you know, make something ‘easier/better’…

The upper floor of MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM teamLab Borderless is full of interactive digital art that promotes learning, curiosity and play. Whilst the lower floor creates a borderless world, the artworks on this floor have more distinct boundaries and have been designed with young visitors in mind.

This year the education team at ACMI received funding from Creative Victoria to run a pilot project, Key Frame, under the Virtual Creative Professionals in Schools education partnership. The funding provided the opportunity for creative professionals at ACMI to work on a collaborative project with a rural school with the main mode of communication being virtual conferencing.

We worked with the Horsham College Year 10 cohort over 9 weeks which involved more than 15 virtual conference sessions; a visit to Horsham; 2 teacher professional learning sessions and an extensive student production camp at ACMI. …
