Climbing the Forbes rankings

As the sixth-largest economy in the European Union, Forbes reports that the country “plays an important role as a European transportation hub, with a persistently high trade surplus, stable industrial relations, and low unemployment.”

Ideal startup climate

In the Netherlands, an entrepreneur can launch a business within 4 days, compared to 5,5 in Denmark, 14.5 in Germany and 6 in the UK. With a stable and transparent tax system, thriving innovation clusters and a significant strategic positioning within Europe, the Netherlands is filled with opportunities for international entrepreneurs.

At the Brightlands Innovation Factory, in the past year we helped startups from more than 17 nationalities from around the world to locate at Brightlands (in Limburg, south of the Netherlands).
We also count among the few startup visa facilitators for entrepreneurs coming from outside the European Union.

Inside the Ranking

Forbes determines the Best Countries for Business by rating 153 nations on 15 different factors. Those include property rights, innovation, taxes, technology, corruption, infrastructure, market size, political risk, quality of life, workforce, freedom (personal, trade and monetary), red tape and investor protection. Each category is equally weighted.

In addition to the general list, the Netherlands also ranked highly among best countries for personal freedom, technology, innovation, and property rights.
