Football & Friends: The Picks (NFL Playoffs Round 2)
Welcome once again to Football & Friends: The Picks. First off I wanna thank Amber, Jay, Damon, and Jaydee for picking last week. I appreciate you. We had a great round of games for Wild Card Weekend. We are not down to the Elite 8. I have 4 new guests joining me this week. Danny, Vandell, Stevie, and Skylar. Let’s get into the picks. I’ll kick things off.
Two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. Let’s start with the Saturday games. Which happen to fall on my birthday lol.
Rams vs Green Bay
The Rams upset the Seahawks last week in the wild card round. Their defense looked dominant. I worry about their quarterback situation. They are gonna have to score to keep up with Green Bay. The Packers had an extra week to rest too. That can be a good or a bad thing. I’m a say a good thing in this situation. Aaron Rodgers is on a mission to get another ring. The Rams defense is legit and will give Rodgers some trouble but I feel he overcomes it. Packers win and move on to the NFC Championship game.
My Pick: Packers
Ravens vs Buffalo
I really like this matchup. You have two of the most exciting young QB’s in the game today. Both got their first playoff wins last week. These teams are good on both sides of the ball. This one will be very close. I’m a go Ravens here. I say this game goes to overtime with Lamar Jackson running for the game-winning touchdown. You heard it here first.
My Pick: Ravens
Now let’s get into the Sunday games.
Browns vs Chiefs
This is gonna be another good matchup. The Browns got their first playoff win in ages last week. They put a beat down on the Steelers. Now they face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. This won’t be easy at all. The Browns will bring their A-game no doubt. In the end, I think the Cheifs will be too much for them. This will be a high scoring game. Both teams can put up points. If it comes down to a shootout, my money is on Mahomes. Chiefs win.
My Pick: Chiefs
Tampa Bay vs Saints
Brees vs Brady Part III. The Saints have got the best of Brady in both of their meetings so far this season. Holding Tampa to just 3 points in the last game they played. Now, this is the playoffs. Can the Saints make it three in a row against the Bucs? It’s possible. They seem to have Tampa’s number. I wanna say Saints but I just have a feeling Brady will figure things out and not lose another game to the Saints. I’m going with the Bucs here.
My Pick: Tampa Bay
Now I’m a hand it off to my boy Danny for his picks. Take it away bro……..
Hello everyone. Now before I get started, first and foremost I hope everyone and their families are staying safe during the pandemic. And thank you, Chris, for inviting me back to do your picks again bro and I hope you and your family are staying safe as well. NFC DIVISIONAL ROUND. Let’s get to it. On Saturday my Packers host the Rams. Number one offense vs number one defense. The Rams do have a banged-up team a little bit but that means nothing. The way they handled Seattle was impressive. Me being a Pack fan I expect the Rams to come out and play. Green Bay’s rushing defense has stepped up and they must keep it up. But our offense is playing better this season than they did last season. Rodgers is having a hell of a year. No Brainer who my pick to win this one. My Pack 24–21.
Ravens vs Bills
Man, that’s gonna be a great one to see. The Bills got their first playoff win in 25 years if I'm not mistaken. The Ravens got revenge against Tennessee from being eliminated by them last season. You have two great teams in this one. This is a hard pick for me but it will definitely be a fun game to watch so I'm gonna take the Bills in this one. 17–14. Sunday you get Chiefs vs Browns and round 3 Bucs vs Saints. Now let’s give the Browns credit. They DOMINATED the Steelers by putting up 28 points in the first quarter. The Steelers did try to make a comeback but it didn’t work out for them. They should’ve gone for it on 4th and 1 instead of punting and it went back downhill for them.
Now, Browns vs Chiefs is gonna be probably the best playoff game in my opinion you got two great offenses going against each other. Mayfield vs Mahomes. Browns definitely have the potential to beat Kansas City but I say Kansas City pulls it out in a very close one. 34–31. Bucs vs Saints. It's still shocking to see the Bucs have Brady as their QB. This gonna be the match-up to see since the Saints already beat the Bucs twice and it is very possible they can beat them three times but you never know. New Orleans defense held the Bears to only 9 points. Very good. This is also another hard pick for me because the Saints are willing to get back to the Superbowl and the Bucs might make it. I really don’t see Tom Brady losing to the same team 3 times in one season. Never happened to him but it's the first time for everything right. If my Packers beat the Rams I’d love a rematch against Brady from earlier in the season. My pick goes to the Bucs 21–17. There you have it, folks. Hope you all enjoy the games and continue staying safe and thank you again Chris for having me on to pick again bro. Continue to stay safe. And btw even though y’all lost y’all played a great game and it’s nothing to be ashamed about.
Thanks, Danny for your picks. I’m doing great along with my family. Hope you and yours are well and staying safe too. Next up is Skylar with her predictions for the week. Take it away……
January 16: Rams VS Packers 4:35 pm
In the last game of the regular season, Rodgers threw four touchdown passes as the Packers trounced the Tennessee Titans 40–14 for their fifth consecutive victory Sunday night. Wide receiver Devante Adams’ three touchdown catches gave him 17 this season, one off the Packers’ single-season record that Sterling Sharpe set in 1994. Adams, who caught 11 passes for 142 yards Sunday, leads the NFL in touchdown receptions despite missing two games with a hamstring injury. During the game, Green Bay ran wild behind 124 yards and two touchdowns from A.J. Dillion and 94 yards from Aaron Jones. Dillion who was a second-round draft pick from Boston College ran for just 115 yards in his rookie season, in which he spent over a month on the Covid-19 reserve list. Lastly, the game showcased why the Packers want to make sure the playoffs go through Lambeau after losing on the road in three of the last six NFC championship games. With snow falling throughout the first half and continuing to cover much of the field the rest of the game, Green Bay moved the ball at will all night.
Skylar’s Pick: Packers
January 16 Baltimore VS Buffalo 8:15 pm
Bills: Last week, both Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson experience their first playoff victory. With Buffalo the AFC East champions for the first time since 1995 and hosting their first playoff game since ’96. Allen threw two touchdown passes and scored another rushing in leading the Bills to a 27–24 win over the Indianapolis Colts in a wild-card game Saturday. In a season in which the Bills busted numerous slumps, Allen became Buffalo’s first starter in a quarter-century to win a playoff game. During the game, Allen finished 26 of 35 for 324 yards with a 5-yard touchdown to Dawson Knox and a 35-yarder to Stefon Diggs, which led the fans to shout ‘’MVP! MVP! To celebrate the first Buffalo player to lead the NFL in catches and yards receiving.
Ravens: On the other hand, Lamar Jackson ran for 136 yards and a 48-yard touchdown while throwing for 179 more as the Ravens rallied from 10 points down and beat the Tennesse Titans. The 2019 NFL MVP set up a 33-yard field goal by Justin Tucker with a 28- yard pass to Marquise Brown. Jackson then tied it by breaking loose for a 48-yard TD run, dividing for the pylon- the second-longest TD by a quarterback in the Super Bowl era behind Kaepernick’s 56 yarders for the 49ners against the Packers on June 12, 2013. After the victory, Ravens head coach Jim Harbaugh said during his press conference, ‘’ This may be the best win I’ve ever been associated with’’.
January 17: Browns VS Kansas City 3:05 pm
Browns: Last week the Browns crushed the Steelers in a wild-card round Sunday night, picking up the franchise’s first postseason victory in more than a quarter-century and earring a trip to Kansas City next Sunday to play the raining Super Bowl Champions. During the game, quarterback Baker Mayfield capped a cathartic opening half with a masterful 64- yard drive that ended with a 7-yard toss to Austin Hooper with 34 seconds remaining. This victory was the Browns’ first postseason triumph of any kind since beating New England on New Year’s Day 1995. That’s three months before Mayfield was born and their first playoff win on the road since Dec. 28, 1696.
Chiefs: On the other side, the Chiefs, had already had wrapped up the №1 seed and the AFC’s lone first-round bye, so coach Andy Reid chose rest over reps by sitting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, safety Tyrann Mathieu and several of his best players. Chad Henne, making his first start since September 2014 with Jacksonville, threw for 218 yards with his first two TD passes in 2,303 days. Byron Pringle caught the first early in the game and Darwin Thompson grabbed the second late. Also, superstar Patrick Mahomes finished his third season as the starter with 4,740 yards, 38 touchdown passes, and six interceptions.
January 17: Buccaneers VS Saints 6:40 pm
This matchup is the oldest QB matchup ever. Last week, quarterback Tom Brady threw for 381 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers past Washington 31–23 in their NFC wild-card game Saturday night. It was their first playoff victory since the 2002 season. Brady was critical of his play and the offense’s performance in the red zone but relished picking up his 31st career postseason win. Also, wide receiver Antonio Brown had a TD catch in four consecutive games dating back to the regular season, tying the second-longest streak in franchise history. Also, Mike Evans owns the record at six games and was Tampa Bay’s top receiver against Washington with six catches for 119 yards. During an interview, after the game Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette said about Brady, ‘’ He’s a fighter, he plays hard, works hard and studies hard, and he is the man for the job’’.
Saints: Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 28 of 39 passes for 265 yards, connecting with Michael Thomas and Latavius Murray for touchdowns. The Saints defeated the Chicago Bears 21–9 in the NFC wild-card game Sunday. The win for the Saints sets up a divisional-round meeting this weekend with Tampa Bay and Tom Brady. During the game, Brees’ first touchdown pass in the opening quarter was 11-yards over the middle to Thomas, who came back from a three-game absence to help heal a nagging ankle injury. The 2019 Offensive Player of the Year missed nine games this season and had not caught a touchdown pass since December 2019. Lastly, running back who missed the last game due to being on the COVID 19 list, rushed for 99 yards and added a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Skylar’s Pick: Saints
Thanks Skylar. Now I’m gonna pass it to Stevie for her picks………
Green Bay over Rams
Baltimore over Bills
Chiefs over Browns
Saints over Tampa Bay
Thanks, Stevie for your picks. To close things out it will be Vandell and his picks.
I finally get to pick in the elite 8 edition of this NFL season but without further or due let's make those picks
Rams vs Packers: This is the first game on Saturday. Of course, the Rams have the number 1 defense and the Packers are playing at home in Lambeau with a red hot Packers team playing in the Frozen Tundra, I believe with a banged-up Donald the Packers will prevail 31–23.
Baltimore vs. Buffalo: The second game on Saturday two young star QBs, Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson… Both stellar defenses but I believe the Bills will take this game because of a slightly better receiver corps namely Stephon Diggs. Bills win 35–28.
Now onto the Sunday Games
Browns vs. Kansas City: The Browns were impressive and will get some help back with Coach Stefanski and both of there are starting cornerbacks Kevin Johnson and Denzel Ward all returning from the covid protocols. The Chiefs haven’t looked great in 3 or 4 weeks of football. But I do believe the Chiefs being there before will do enough to survive and win a shootout 38–34
Bucs vs. New Orleans: The last game will it be the same script? Saints blowing out the Bucs. Or will the Buccaneers find a way to win when it matters the most. I don’t think the third time’s a charm for the Buccaneers. I pick the Saints 38–20
Those are my picks for all the winning teams…and oh yeah GO PACK GO
Thanks, Vandell for your picks. That’s it for the picks. Hopefully, this week's games are just as good as the one's last week. Shout out to Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Team. You guys put up a great effort last week against the Bucs. We add some more pieces in the offseason and we will be right back in the playoffs next season. No one believed in us. Rivera has come in and helped change the culture in Washington. The sky’s the limit for this team.
Shout out to Taylor Heinicke for his performance as well. 26–44 for 306 passing yards one touchdown and one interception. He ran for 46 yards and scored on that amazing dive play in the endzone. What a gusty performance. I wouldn’t just hand over the starting job to him just yet but he has earned a chance to compete for it next season. I’d have an open quarterback competition. Let’s see who wants it. We shall see.
I’m gonna enjoy my birthday weekend by relaxing and watching some football. It doesn’t get much better than that. As always I’ll leave my online shop at the bottom of the page if you wanna check out some of my custom Football & Friends gear. Enjoy the games this weekend. Take care, be safe, and I’ll see you back here next week for the NFC/AFC Championship game predictions.
