The Teen Boy Who Was Killed By His Secret Lover
Alex Rodda was a 15 year old boy from Knutsford, England, who attended the Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School in Cheshire. He was in Year 11 and was extremely popular amongst his friendship group.
As well as being described as a thoughtful and loving young boy, Alex was openly gay and quite an outgoing person. He was extremely fortunate in that his friends and family were so accepting of him and didn’t treat him any differently to how they had before he came out to them.
In late October 2019, Alex was using Facebook when his attention was caught by an older boy who had also attended the same school as him. This boy was 19 year old Matthew Mason.
Despite the 4 year age gap and Alex being below the age of consent (16 years old in the UK), Alex decided to send a message to Matthew.
Matthew Mason was a quiet guy, from an affluent churchgoing family, an outdoorsy, farmer’s son, who had left high school to study at college. Matthew, unlike Alex, was not gay and in fact, had been in a relationship for 2 years with a girl called Caitlyn.
