I know some people who, like myself, lived abroad in a developing country and they cant seem to “come back home” in their hearts even after being back physically for a while. This is what I think about that…

I think God gave you a passion because he knew you would do something with it. He didn’t give it to those around you because He knew they would let it slip away…your passions are wrapped up in your calling and God wants you to pursue him and pursue those things. (Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4).…whatever they are…if they are so big that they seem impossible…they are most definitely from Him. (“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5) He doesn’t “call you” to anything that you can do without Him. He calls you to BIG things. Sometimes scary things. Because it pushes us to rely on Him. Its a tough road to follow Jesus into the mission field (For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. 1 Cor 7:22)…Slaves can’t just get up and walk away from what their Master has for them to do…Neither can you just get up and walk away from the Calling of Christ on your life.

Some Christians say “The Lord will protect you when you go” and I just cant believe that. Sure He will Guide you and lead you towards safety in times of trouble especially if you have discernment but the life you knew will pass away. When He calls you, He calls you to the End of your Life as you know it. Jesus was the greatest example. He died because of the calling on His life and He came back as the Savior of the World. (For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16) The life we had before we went has passed away and we picked up a new life. It’s not going to be the same as before. This has to become the new familiar. You can’t expect yourself to just come home and be the same as before. Don’t even try. Be okay with it feeling different even if the different isn’t a great feeling. Pray for the Lord to help Guide you through it. Rely on Him. He knows the struggle you are facing.

If you’ve been back “home” a while and you’re not feeling this way, cool! Sometimes we are called for a season but if your heart is still not back, don’t force it to be. God could surely use more passionate people to do His will and bring you into the calling He placed on your heart. Knock on doors and let them open up or stay shut. Walk through the opening doors and walk past those that stay closed.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7–8

Its Not The American Dream its the Kingdom Minded Dream. It’s Gods Will we are after. Not the riches of this life but riches in heaven. Our most valuable currency is Love.

As a Christian, we all have the calling of carrying The Holy Spirit and continuing Jesus’ Ministry.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:15

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

What’s God placing on your heart? What are your passions? How can you use them to do the last two verses I just shared? That is your calling. That is your purpose.
