Red
Woven through the tapestry of my life
Represented in the threads coursing through my flesh
Rivers of fire flowing ‘till the long day wanes
Rivers that were dammed too early for some
Like my aunt
Whose rivers became weak and thin
Polluted by their wellsprings
Growing dark and cold
Before an undying wintertide ices rivers and halts bittersweet current
Red velvet ribbons binding our beings
Should one tear we become unraveled
Red woven through us all
Spilt by choice or by accident
It fetters us together
Equal in life
Equal in weakness
Equal in death
Equal in red
