The big question is how did Freedom 251 manage to bring a smart phone out for 251 rupees only ?

Freedom 251 has been the talk of the nation since its launch which happened on Wednesday night. Ringing bells, a Noida based telecom company has brought this super affordable phone into the market. Placed at mere 251 rupees, cheaper than a budget meal for two, Freedom 251 is named as the cheapest phone in the world. The economy of this phone gave rise to a hope to connect the low economy families in the remote areas of the country.

We were quite impressed by the specs of this phone, a 1.3GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, running Android 5.1 (Lollipop) operating system, a 4-inch (960x540 pixels) display, 8GB internal storage with micro SD card slot, dual-SIM, 3.2-megapixel camera and a 1450mAh battery. Though a popular mobile reviewing platform has put it out its words on Freedom 251 as a cheap quality phone, reason being that the original brand of the phone being ‘Adcom’ was hidden by whitener. The performance of the phone is surprisingly very good for its tiny budget. Most of its icons were copied from Iphone/Ipads which might put Ringing Bells Pvt.Ltd into a problem if Apple doesn’t decide to be generous. Irrespective of its Branding and Originality, the phone’s performance compared to its price steals it all.

Speaking about the man force behind this piece, Mohit Kumar Goel is the promoter of Ringing Bells, who’s family has been into Agri product business from past three decades. They have recently got into telecom inspired by Modi government’s extensive commitment towards “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. Several people in the field of Research and Manufacture have commented saying it is impossible to launch a phone at the price of Rs.251 , considering a phone build with the same specs as Freedom 251 with the most cheapest components would only cost around Rs.700. Looking at the company size, many raised a question about the scalability of the business if the model is not subsidized. The spokesperson of the company has refused to have any support by the government. Any which way, Freedom 251 can be potential mobile phone to disrupt the market if its quality and delivery is done as promised.
