Q: Have you had people prototype commercial ideas at the asylum ? what do you think of the now pivoted quirky model ?

Jeffery Axel [5:41 PM]
Q: Do you think makerspaces + fab-labs , will play an important role in the Indian economy ?http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/04/makerspaces-are-remaking-local-economies/390807/1

How Makerspaces Help Local Economies
New technologies like 3-D printers and laser cutters have boosted entrepreneurial activity in American communities.

Akshat Gandhi [5:42 PM]
Hi @vaibhav

Akshat Gandhi [5:43 PM]
so have been following makers asylum on facebook but have not had the time to come for one of your meets

Akshat Gandhi [5:43 PM]
what kind of access do you provide to people with your 3d printing?

Vaibhav [5:45 PM]
sorry, @divraj yes alot of commercial prototypes have been made here

Hatim Baheranwala [5:45 PM]
Q: Hi Vaibhav — just curious to know who can join the community? Is it only for teams working on prototypes around IoT, etc or is there a way that teams working on software could also participate?

Vaibhav [5:46 PM]
one of them is a smart pen, MIT is using this as a base for prototyping medical devices. also anand gandhi is using the space to make camera rigs for his VFX project

Vaibhav [5:47 PM]
@jeffaxel: Hi Jeffery yes I do believe that, as they will forge the next generation of entrepreneurs, giving them all the tools they need and a platform to collaborate

open innovation

Vaibhav [5:48 PM]
@akshatg: Hey akshat, 3d printers are treated as toys here. You can come learn to use them and then play with them as much as you want

2

Vaibhav [5:48 PM]
The idea is you use them, we don’t do services.

Vaibhav [5:49 PM]
@hatimsb: Hey Hatim, we have everyone from mathematicians, to origami artists, to college dropouts using the space

Vaibhav [5:49 PM]
to make their ideas happen

Vaibhav [5:51 PM]
