Meet Buoy-Up’s Bold Jewelry Designer: Tami Eshed

Interview by Jaime Kaplan-Perico

Meet Tami Eshed, a talented jewelry designer from Israel who considers her collections “minimalistic yet bold.”

Jaime Kaplan-Perico really enjoyed learning about Tami’s inspirations for her collection.

Where are you from?

“Tel Aviv, Israel”

What’s your Instagram name?

@tamieshed

Who inspires you on Instagram?

“@tamarKaravan. She is an amazing fashion photographer/journalist. Her images are very clean yet colorful. She inspires me to be bold and not to be afraid to step out of my comfort zone. “

What inspires you to create such unique jewelry?

“I believe that it all started when I was a student wanting to design 3-dimensional jewelry. I wanted to create pieces that would be as far from the body as possible while wearing them. Also, my love for architecture and geometric shapes has definitely influenced me to create my distinctive jewelry. I enjoy fantasizing when wandering through the streets of Tel Aviv while watching and gaining inspiration from the balconies.”

Who inspires you the most?

“Ron Gilad is my greatest inspiration. He begins with a line and is able to transform it into something magnificent (http://www.moooi.com/designers/ron-gilad). That is how I feel about my line T Squared. My jewelry is very minimalistic but develops into something very special.”

Do you always have a set design in mind when creating a piece?

“Yes, I’ll sketch a few drafts and then I get straight to work. I don’t leave time for hesitation or to consider the consequences.”

Why are you trying crowd-funding?

“Regardless of being a young designer, I promised myself that this year I would become famous. I would like the world to know who both T Squared and Tami Eshad are; I am confident that through crowd-funding my brand has the potential to become a hit around the world.”

Have you created a piece of jewelry and had such a connection with it that you refused to sell it?

“I would never even consider selling the last collection I designed in school. It was my love affair; it was like a boyfriend. I still have a connection with it that I would never put a price on. It is what transformed me into an artist.”

Do you have any advice for independent artists?

“My father is an entrepreneur, which made it easier for me to become independent and want to open my own business at an early age. Something that he taught me was to always be consistent. Sometimes there are highs and other times there are lows, but one should never stop regardless of the obstacles he/she could face. Like I always say… Always be bold!”

If you were an ice cream flavor which would you be?

“Cookies and Cream! My jewelry is mostly black and white and I am always wearing white. Black and white together is bold and makes a statement. And who doesn’t love cookies and cream!?”

Tami will be presenting her limited edition jewlery on the new and exciting fashion crowdfunding platform — Buoy-Up.
