Does the author realize that once detected the weapon acquisition can be done via IR?

The F-35 has IRST.
Russian planes already carry a mixed loadout of radar-guided and IR guided missiles…. I doubt that will change.
Plus, don’t assume that the IR signature of all planes are equal.
most 4th Gens, (both Russian & western) don’t bother to hide their exhaust, whereas the Raptor & Lightning are designed to suppress their IR signatures as much as possible.
So, either way, the Russian aircraft is more than likely going to be seen first.
