Review: Paranoia: 1.0 - 2004

Warped, bizarre and, at times, downright confusing, “Paranoia 1.0” is intriguing and, in the end, absolutely fascinating! I thoroughly enjoyed it! …even if I wasn’t always entirely sure what it was I was enjoying…
This movie is super interesting and it is well done, but it takes a while to really ‘get going’, and also may leave a little too much up to the interpretation of the viewer… But the basic premise of this film, set in the bleak not-too-distant future, is to pose and answer the question: ‘What if a ‘computer’ virus could affect the human brain?’…
“Paranoia 1.0” is a very original and quite bizarre, sci-fi thriller about a fairly reclusive computer programmer named Simon, living in New York some time in the future. Despite being set in the future, things don’t look all-that futuristic, in fact, for the most part, the future is depicted as pretty dismal. So, Simon suddenly starts receiving anonymous, empty packages and then begins to slowly lose his mind with paranoia, all the while seemingly obsessed with drinking nothing but “Nature Fresh” milk! Yeah..it’s all pretty crazy, it seems people either love it or hate it..I loved it! It’s the type of movie that you sort of just have to watch, and be confused… but just enjoy it scene-by-scene (there are some pretty cool scenes, and others that are at least intriguing) and at the end, enough should be made clear..the rest you just have to figure out for yourself.
