Walking in the Dark
I’ve always had difficulty taking that first step. The idea of bounding into unknown territory is frightening. But here I am again…
I’ve taken several stabs at blogging in the past. I would set up an account on a blogging site, prepare one or two posts, and I would tweak my profile countless times to suit my aesthetic requirements. But each time I would stop just short of the actual start line. You can’t fail if you’ve never even tried, right? Maybe not.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” — Wayne Gretzky
A quote that has been reiterated to me countless times over the years. But at the end of the day, it’s all about the courage you find within yourself more than it is about hearing quotes from the successful and inspiration from friends.
The problem is I’m not sure what I expect to gain from writing, and I’m not yet confident in my ability to write about the content I find interest in. I feel like I’m walking in the dark on this one.
However, having looked into the past, I can now recognise that this is a constant in life. The times when I’ve felt the most joy, serious growth and development, were when I took that plunge into the dark. Often it’s much easier to gain your sense of direction and adjust to your new environment when you dive in head first, as opposed to skirting around within your comfort zone.
Now is never a good time to hold yourself back. I can’t keep holding onto the fear of embarrassing myself.
So here I go; this is my first step walking in the dark.
