Meet Justin Birckbichler, 26-year-old 4th grade teacher from Virginia. Justin was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 25. He discovered a lump while doing a routine testicular self-exam in the shower in early October 2016. Following surgery and 21 treatments, as of March 2017, Justin is in remission. His advice to other men is “Carpe Scrotiem! Don’t be afraid to check yourself and talk about your ‘boys’ with your boys!”

“I want to live in a world where we can freely talk about testicular self-exams. I want conversation to be open about all health issues, but I’m especially passionate about men’s health. Not talking about it can be a potentially life-threatening mistake. Keeping each other accountable for performing regular self-checks is also critical. Without honest conversations, this accountability is impossible.”

Justin’s the founder and blogger at A Bally Sense of Tumor and has recently won an award for the Best Advocacy and Awareness Cancer Blog in 2017 and Justin was recognized as one of 15 People Who Raised Cancer Awareness in 2017.

Thank you, Justin, for being an incredible advocate for a cause that’s so near and dear to our heart and for sharing your inspiring story with us. Follow Justin at @aballsysenseoftumor and ‘Carpe Scrotiem!’
