Digital Media Executive Marcia Parker to Join CALmatters as Publisher and COO
CALmatters announced today that it has hired seasoned digital media executive Marcia Parker as its publisher and chief operating officer. She will start on Feb. 13.
Parker has been the executive director of content and user engagement for the Technology business at Informa (formerly Penton), West Coast editorial director for AOL/Patch Media, launch manager for California Watch at the Center for Investigative Reporting, assistant dean at the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, and editorial director for London startup State.com.
“I am thrilled to join the CALmatters team and to have an opportunity to help build what is already a terrific organization and to support important journalism in California at this momentous time in our state and nation,” Parker said.
Parker’s role will be to help identify new business opportunities for CALmatters and lead all other non-editorial aspects of its business, including audience research and development, marketing, fundraising, partnerships, and earned revenue.

Parker also serves as a mentor in the Matter media accelerator in San Francisco and is on the selection committee for the Knight Journalism Fellows at Stanford University. She is an adjunct lecturer at the new San Francisco campus of Northwestern University and holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
