Modernizing applications with Microservices…and winning!
By Bill Oakes, CISSP, Director for Product Marketing for API Management at CA Technologies

More businesses are taking a leap of faith with APIs and Microservices and experiencing positive results.
One of the newest, efficient ways to modernize application architectures is microservices. Enterprises are quickly adapting to microservices to help them embrace continuing change and remain agile.
Getting healthy with APIs
Recently, we heard from a leading fitness company, Beachbody, about their success doing just this during the Virtual Summit Series: Modernizing Application Architecture with Microservices and APIs. In addition to delivering health and fitness products, Beachbody also provides access to fitness trainers and training modules, generating a total of $1.3 billion in annual revenue. During their digital transformation journey, they recognized an opportunity to reach more customers through improved mobile fitness apps and products– but to do this, they needed to scale their business to incorporate diversified technologies and a better digital solution. They turned to microservices.
By breaking down their monolithic server-based architecture and implementing an API enabled microservices architecture, they simplified integrations with partner and third-party applications, deployed internationally, and reduced maintenance and costs. Embracing digital transformation by applying CA API and Microservices solutions and implementing a microservices based strategy and culture, Beachbody became agile to provide better, faster and more secure services to their customers.
Solving tough business challenges and achieving winning outcomes
CA recently introduced a new solution, CA Microgateway, to address this space and bring the industrial strength of their API Management platform to a lightweight, Docker-based implementation that’s more appropriate for a microservices architecture. This new innovation brings aggregation, orchestration, security, and management to a nascent market that other vendors are often struggling to deliver.
Further evidence that CA Microgateway can help ease the transition from legacy monolithic applications to enable a more agile business, recently came from API World. CA Microgateway has received a 2017 API Award for the category: Microservices APIs. While the product is still in beta, its ability to deliver aggregation, orchestration, security and management to microservice architectures impressed the judging panel for API World this year.
“CA Microgateway is a great example of how more and more of the tech industry is realizing that APIs are not just how we integrate tools and apps, APIs are the new way of doing business and building new revolutionary technologies,” Said Geoff Domoracki, Founder of API World.
The 2017 API Awards are the API Industry’s largest award event, taking place during the API World 2017 Conference & Expo (San Jose Convention Center), the world’s largest API conference & expo with 3,000+ attendees.
CA Technologies will formally receive its award at the API World 2017 Award Ceremony in September.
This is the second year in a row that CA API Management solutions have received awards at API World. In 2016, CA received Best Security API and Best Mobile API awards.
We invite you to join us at API World and get hands on with CA Microgateway, as well as network in the API World Expo with a free Expo PLUS Pass
