I don’t consider myself a fool, but I just don’t get the appeal of these pseudo-intellectual dissertations to topics which do no require such. Ostensibly, this is a review of RHCP’s latest offering, but the author doesn’t appear to have any interest in sharing his opinions about “The Getaway”- rather, he delves into a condensed written history (including a handful of highlights) of the band. I find this “review”rather exhausting- and more significantly, unhelpful.

My take on The Getaway.

Yes, it is uneven. I can usualy expect any RHCP LP to offer at least a half dozen tunes with a high degree of “re-listenability”. The Getaway is not one such album. That fact notwithstanding, there are a few worthy songs that warrant inlusion into these HOF’ers cannon. In no particular order, and based upon my own subjective opionion they are: The Getaway, Dark Necessities, Detroit and This Toconderoga. Goodbye Angels, The Hunter, Sick Love and The Longest Wave are decent- but forgetable. Rating: 2.8/4.0
