Here are easy step-by-step instructions for how to make a no sew tutu. Follow this tutorial and customize using colors you have selected.
The supplies for creating a easy no sew tutu:
- The structure of the tutu will be made with plain Tulle Spools. Add additional sparkle to the tutu with Tulle Rolls with Glitter on the outer layers. We recommend having 80–85 yards of tulle total.
- Elastic — Measure your waist line and cut off enough elastic to fit comfortably around your waist. Since elastic stretches, you’ll need a few inches smaller than your actual waist measurement.
- Safety Pins — A handful (3-5 safety pins) will suffice here.
- Finally, your favorite pair of scissors.
Next, cut the tulle into strips. Keep in mind that these strips will be folded into half, so pick a length that will be comfortable once folded.
On a large flat surface, roll out the spool and cut a strip based on the chosen length. After you cut the first strip, fold the tulle roll back over the strip you just cut. This will help ensure that all your tulle strips are about the same length. Do this until you have finished cutting your tulle into strips.
The end result will be long strips of tulle, neatly stacked like in the picture above.
Next, use safety pins to create the elastic waistband and attach the strips of tulle to the elastic loop. There are many ways to tie the tulle to the elastic waistband. We prefer the cow hitch knot. Most tutu tutorials suggest keeping the elastic partially stretched as the tulle is tied.
Repeat this tying process until the elastic band is hidden by layers of tulle. More layers of tulle can be tied to the elastic waistband to create a more voluminous tutu.
