What I disagree with in your estimation is that America is the front runner in so many sports. Whether you’re pulling for Lochte or Phelps in the 200m IM, you’re still rooting for the best. America doesn’t have many underdogs (because they don’t get the same media coverage) and those who are underdogs are in sports Americans aren’t exposed to on a regular basis. But ask anyone watching driving or badminton if they are pulling for China, they will tell you they will root for the underdog. This piece feels like an excuse to write something
