Hmm. An interesting response. I agree, much of the Washington elites who fought Trump are the ones not supporting him. Yet there is something you need to realize.
Telling people that they are “Not principled, they are scavengers frightened that their rice bowls are threatened” is hardly a way to earn their vote. I am one of the those #NeverTrump people you seem to despise. And I tell you this-I am no lackey of the Republican elites. I am a Tea Party Republican, committed to bringing in new elected officials-ones not willing to sell their souls to so-called compromises.
My opposition to Trump flows from somewhere else-I do not trust him. Ideologies rarely change, and his ideology, for about 40 years of his life, was quite Liberal. Laying that aside, his comments on the Judge trying his case, his idea to stop Muslim emigration, and his promise to deport roughly 11 Million people….you can hardly accuse us of having no principals. I do not trust Trump, and I will not vote for him.
You see, we “unprincipled scavengers” DO have principals. Those principals started with the man who founded the Republican party-Abraham Lincoln, a man who worked for a party without malice in it’s heart. If anything, I agree wholeheartedly Political Correctness is a sickness, a veiled attack on the Bill of Rights. I want a conservative who defends those ideals, & the ideals of small government, the ideals of personal rights. But Trump is not that man.
If there is a person you left off your list, it’s a man Pro-Trump Republicans hate-Ted Cruz. In the end, however, it is he I admire most in this political season. He was the one who fought the “establishment” with all his soul. Republicans who had been in office before I was born said, “I’d take Trump over Cruz any day”. Even when he lost, even when his entire party demanded he bow before the proverbial king, he said no. Even when he was booed, even when he was called a traitor, he stood his principals. You see, to some of us, the Traitors aren’t the people who refuse to support Trump, it’s the party that sucked up to him.
Just a thought for future arguments-don’t just label your opponents and always believe the worst about them. They are people too, and entitled to the dignity that comes with defending their principals, however flawed you believe those principals to be.
