CESS Testnet v0.5.1 Launch at 8AM UTC, Sep 6th

CESS will start the testing of CESS v0.5.1 at 8:00 am UTC on September 6th. The new iteration has fixed the issues experienced in v0.5.0 and added the R²S consensus mechanism, the transactions module, and other modules.

V0.5.1’s specific optimizations include:

1. The storage miner list of the blockchain explorer will continue to be sorted by the storage miner ID.

2. Optimized the trading method of the Oracle. Previously the off-chain transactions in Oracle could only be called by a few predefined accounts. Now it can be called by all the on-duty consensus nodes and there is no transaction gas fee.

New modules added:

1. Deployed the CESS novel consensus mechanism for the first time — Random Rotational Selection mechanism(R²S) to replace the Polkadot consensus module. Unlike other POS consensus such as BABE which determines the probability of block production based on the amount of staking, R²S determines the selection probability based on consensus nodes’ workloads and contribution (credit score model) to the network. By having R²S effectively solves “miners’ dilemma” — monopoly of large nodes in the network, greatly improves the efficiency of the decentralized network, and realizes on-chain transaction processing. In the CESS mainnet, participants can stake 100,000 CESS tokens to become candidate nodes. Then the system randomly selects 11 consensus nodes periodically from the pool of candidate nodes who meet the criteria at each time window. Consensus nodes are responsible for transaction verification and block generation. Meanwhile, candidate nodes participate in the data preprocessing procedure to prove their competency and must meet the criteria to be selected as consensus nodes by the next rotation. Reelections take place again at the end of each round of time window. Any on-duty consensus node that fails to perform or acts maliciously is replaced immediately by candidate nodes and penalized with bad credits. Nodes with credit scores below standard are disqualified from being candidate nodes and must forfeit partial staking tokens if they quit.

2. Supports calling transaction on-chain, which means adding a transaction tag [transactional] to the required transaction to maintain its atomicity. Once the transaction fails, the updated status will roll back, greatly improving the security of the transaction.

3. On the premise of not changing the economic model and the on-chain logic, the block generation time is adjusted, and the generation time of each block is changed from 3s to 6s, which improves the stability of the network.

The miner reward program will adopt a new set of rules when CESS-v0.5.1 goes live, and the details are as follows:

Storage Miners:

Disregard the test time of this version, all storage miners will be rewarded with a total of 5,000 points. Specifically, the final points for each miner are calculated based on the percentage of the total storage power contributed by the miner. For example, the total computing power of the entire CESS network on the last day of the test is 10,000G, and the computing power of miner A is 100G which is 1% of the total power. 1% * 5000 points, therefore miner will get 50 points.

Note: Each miner has to contribute at least 1G storage power to be qualified. Check the storage power for individual storage miners and the entire testnet here.

Consensus Miners:

Consensus miners join the network voluntarily without reward points given in v0.5.1

After the CESS mainnet goes live, rewards will be distributed at a ratio of 1:100 (i.e., 1 point is equivalent to 100 CESS tokens). Miner reward list will be posted daily. CESS reserves all the rights for the final explanation.
