Prompt 1

I agree that depth of field and the motion of the camera creates a more realistic cinema that can be achieved by montage. Montage is a technique in film editing in which a series of short shots are edited into a sequence to condense space, time, and information. Although montage works really well in your cliche sports films as the athlete is about to overcome his/her big challenge, it is not very realistic. It is overall more effective to focus on the depth and field of the motion of the camera in order to create a realistic cinema. Montage also does a good job when you need to show what happens over a long period of time, but to do so, it also leaves out details. By focusing on depth of field and motion of the camera, it allows the audience to experience what is occurring in the frame, which is much realistic. It is true that by creating the illusion of depth in visual art causes even more confusion between film and life because it makes it seem more realistic, but that is not to say that one cannot tell the difference between film and life because obviously, film is never entirely life. The human mind is easily tricked, so I think both illusion of layered space and space created by editing can make movies seem real, as long as the editing is done well.
