CHRG Network participated @ Cryptorally2018 event in Lithuania.

Cryptorally — a brand new format of the event for techie people who are involved ICO (initial coin offering) projects. The goal of the event is to gather startups, investors and other stakeholders to spend a weekend together for the purpose of sharing knowledge and making new acquaintances — usual stuff. However, cryptorally girls (founders) Agne Kazakauskaite and Emile Delam deicided to make regular networking event into something a bit more fun—a rally.

And boy, it was fun…There were 20+ cars heading towards race track “Nemuno ziedas” near Kaunas. CHRG Network had a crew made up of three team members: Gintaras Kuzmickas, Linas Kuzma, myself (Rokas Danusevicius) and a powerful toy at our disposal — Tesla Model S 85D.

The racetrack was build 50 years ago in Soviet Union when racing cars were neither powerful nor fast. So to make it more amusing for spectators they have build a narrow racing lanes with several very interesting (and dangerous…) corners before/after inclines and declines. Most part of racing track was surrounded by big fence not too far from the track itself. So any mistake made would have cost in unrepairable car damages if not something more serious.

With the racing track closed, fire department and ambulance car waiting on a side, we had to sign a paper stating that we understand that insurance is not valid on the track.

With this in mind we put our project talisman on the line. 440bph electric car (wearing mud&snow tyres:) on the track build for soviet cars..

Start — 0 to 150kmh in few second, fast corner and squeaking tyres reminding me that I am not fully prepared for such speeds.. Nevertheless, in order to keep my face and defend electric mobility I had to push pedal till the metal. Next speed reducing zone, another fast 100+ kmh corner and a sharp decline. At the bottom were waiting two very slow corners to right and immediately to the left. Very amusing experience — while you are braking after going downhill you have to make a sharp right turn while the G forces of your car work different compared to other corners (due to decline), than sharp turn to the left and a straight line followed by “carrousel” type of fast corner left. From here track was going uphill, where speed could again reach 150–170kmh with a fast turn.. track was surrounded by tall fence, any mistake and car could be a wreck. I was driving here and thinking how race looks with a track full of cars..Narrow lane, high speed and surrounded by walls..One thing is sure — it is not a dull track, not even when when you are driving alone for a lap time challenge..

Made 4 full laps. During the last lap I felt my car was not giving 100% due to high battery temperature. Energy consumption was showing average 700+ Wh/km! that is 4–5 times above normal rate.

So is it fun to drive Tesla on the track? Definitely yes, I did not feel any power lag. Is it suitable car for racing — definitely no. After 8–10km, at maximum speed and acceleration power output is reduced. Would I change my car to same class ICE? For a racing track maybe, for day by day driving NEVER.. It’s just too much fun have electric torque when you drive daily and also I believe in future with 100% of clean energy used for transportation..

I had to admit — race track added some “spice” for our networking event. Every participant (racer or even spectator) had loads of fun. We had some crazy driving experiences to share among ourselves which has bonded us more during the event.

Thank You Cryptorally girls! :)
