Can I be a "Code Baker" for a day?

Some Background

Those I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with tend to discover real quick that I cherish jokes. Weaved into my soul are a deep appreciation for wordplay and "bad dad jokes." (FYI, you should follow @BadDadJokes on Twitter, but I’m going to imagine you already do.)

It's with that wee bit of personality insight that I share my enjoyment of an event that occurred last week, and I can't believe it didn't happen to cross the mind until just in that moment.

It was like many other Friday's; sitting in a big office, blaring mixtures of ambient non-lyrical music (jazz, classical, and the occasional electronic), sipping on coffee, and rolling my face on a keyboard. Being the end of the week, I was striving to tie up loose ends, prime things for a good start on Monday, and ultimately taking stock of where things were and where they needed to be. Sorting through the weeks' work something dawned on me when studying my Github Contribution Calendar.

The Turn

There it was; 1314. A hot-n-fresh-out-of-kitchen opportunity to make a bad joke. I had successfully contributed "One Pi" to the company (it’s stretch, but super worth it)! Needless to say, I spammed some coworkers with this personally pivotal moment questioning if my title could change to "Code Baker" instead of "Code Monkey." In my shameless excitement, I took to the social medias to share the gaff with others with some good feedback! (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook)

All the while, one of my personal goals for the year has paid off many times over; strive to contribute daily. Such a seemingly simple goal has lead to a multitude of personal breakthroughs from learning, experience, and even confidence.

Maybe soon I'll make a post comparing my abilities before and after for this goal over time to turn it into a teachable moment for others. Until then, I advocate you keep true to your personal goals and share with others the simple pleasures in life!

A friendly call to action

I’m compiling a list of topics to learn and write about orbiting around software development. I’m all ears to your suggestions!
