This started happening to me about six or seven years ago but before that, I was perfectly fine on packed subway cars and had absolutely no problem in closed, confined spaces. A part of me is somewhat fascinated about why, seemingly out of the blue, this would become an issue, but a bigger part of me just wishes it didn’t exist.

At the same time, I do think there’s a certain amount of power that comes from recognizing what we struggle with and making sure we do everything we can to manage our anxiety and keep living our lives. And, as you said, the connections born out of what we struggle with can be some of the most incredible connections of all.

Sorry to hear that you’re dealing with this as well and that it’s a recent development in your life, but it sounds like you’re hanging in there and staying strong.
