At first glance, the sequel to 2013’s Frozen seemed to bring the sisters’ story to a close. Frozen 2 ties up all the loose ends, and (SPOILER ALERT) leaves Elsa to explore and leaves Anna as the queen she was always meant to be. You might think Disney will choose to end the franchise there, but it’s likely you could be seeing a third movie in the next few years. Let’s talk numbers for a moment.

Frozen 1 & 2

Frozen 2 (2019)

Box office revenue plays a huge part in deciding on whether or not to continue a franchise. The original Frozen made a whopping $1.28 billion worldwide, and right away it rose to be the highest grossing animated movie ever (at the time). After that, 2019 brought us the long-awaited sequel, Frozen 2, which managed to churn out even more cash; $1.45 billion at the box office.

That added with the money Disney is making off of the Frozen merchandise (dresses, toys, play sets, and more) it certainly seems makes this franchise a lucrative one. That means, if a hypothetical Frozen 3’s box office increase is the same as going from Frozen-Frozen 2, Disney earns a stunning $1.62 billion. So, will there be a third Frozen movie?
