Tech’s next mega trend

Shy Technology: From a necessary burden of modern life to a more natural and human-centered future
Every morning we wake up to an omnipresence of technology that surrounds the very fabric of our lives.
Over the past decades, new technological developments have drawn our attention, cluttering our minds with data. This age of information has us confined us to smartphones, tablets and desktops.

But with the 4th industrial revolution underway, there is hope on the horizon: Shy Technology. It’s the vision that technology will be minimally invasive. Tech that doesn’t affect interpersonal behaviors but actively utilizies resources that remain almost unused by now. Shy Technology will catalyze our opportunity for action whilst not interfering with our personal life.
Designed to be unobtrusive, naturally intelligent and modest, this new mega trend will transform the way people interact with technology as well as with each other. In the industrial sphere, robots and machines will work collaboratively hand-in-hand with us, so we can focus on the more creative, challenging and intellectual tasks.

With the help of advanced materials such as stretchable, flexible printed electronics and intelligent surfaces, we are able to develop new products and machines that are truly human-centered, and can fundamentally improve their users’ experience.
Today’s technology requires almost all of our central processing capacity without addressing the powerful human peripheral processing capabilities. New smart materials such as sensorskin enable designers to create products that tap into our subconscious perceptions and turn them into actively applicable information.
As designers and engineers, it is our responsibility to properly design and implement Shy Technology as a tool to a more self-determined future.

After the 4th industrial revolution we will no longer wake up starring at our screens, but will be able to fully focus on the brightness of the day ahead, without noticing the technology that helps facilitate it. It means we’ll be open for new experiences and personal growth every day.
Tacterion have created a sensorskin which can be applied to any surface to make it touch and pressure sensitive.
