Graduation Fever!

CUNY SPS Celebrates 2023 Commencement Season in Style

The CUNY SPS Class of 2023 celebrated their milestone with several joyous events this spring.

Black Graduation Ceremony

First, the CUNY SPS Black Student Union hosted a Black Graduation Ceremony at the School’s Manhattan campus on May 24.

Graduates and their families met up to rejoice and reflect upon their accomplishments at CUNY SPS.

Asantee Mitchell, pictured here with her family, gave a speech about her experiences in the BSU. Mitchell, who also delivered the student address at Commencement the following day, graduated this spring with a BA in Disability Studies.

Dr. Claudia V. Schrader, president of CUNY Kingsborough Community College, gave a rousing keynote address encouraging the graduates to remain in touch and serve as mentors to future members of the BSU.

2023 Commencement Ceremony

On May 25, CUNY SPS formally marked our graduates’ accomplishments in a huge and joyous Commencement ceremony at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens.

Student speaker Asantee Mitchell spoke again — this time about her journey at CUNY SPS and what she learned by joining a number of the School’s clubs and organizations.

Donned in academic robes, CUNY SPS faculty sat on stage and cheered Mitchell and the other speakers on.

Graduates, wearing their gowns and (occasionally decorated) caps, listened from their seats.

Following the speeches, students bounded on stage to accept their diplomas, while their families and friends cheered them on.

Virtual Graduation Ceremony

After Commencement, CUNY SPS kept celebrating! On May 31, the School hosted a virtual graduation ceremony for those graduates who could not attend the in-person one.

Congratulations to the CUNY SPS Class of 2023! We can’t wait to see what you will all achieve next!
