Monstrous Births
Sarah Blackwood

Wow, the comments. Anyway, I like to think of childbirth framed in reference to ZPG (Zero Population Growth). In order for a population to remain stable, the average mother needs to raise two offspring to sexual maturity. Two. In a “Nature” setting, sans-birth-control, we know humans can get pregnant more than twice in a full lifetime. Nature uses death on a scale we’re unfamiliar with in our medically/technologically advanced bubble. Next time someone reminds you what is “natural,” remember Nature kept us in check for most of human history by killing us off young.
