This is my first ever post on medium 🎉🎊

So today I’d like to discuss white privilege in the media in 2016

Today’s media would like to think that it’s fully diverse and that it doesn’t favour white people but we can quite clearly see that this isn’t the case. Favouritism of white people in today’s media and society were especially put under a microscope when the 2016!Oscar nominations for acting were all given to white people. Now you may argue “but what if the other films didn’t deserve a nomination” or “it’s just a coincidence” but you would not be saying that say all the nominees were Hispanic or African American or Asian, if that were the case there would be someone saying “it’s like they forced diversity this is racist against white ppl 😰😰😰😰”. It’s that double standard which I’d like to see the end of. One film that I’m sure deserved more nominations was straight outta Compton, for those who don’t know the film Straight Outta Compton is a 2015 African American biographical drama film that chronicles the rise and fall of the Compton, California hip hop group N.W.A. This film isn’t for white people which is probably the reason it didn't get more nominations.
