Caixa Capital renews partnership with accelerator Building Global Innovators

Investment of 200,000 euros in the most promising startup from 2015 BGI’s programme

Announcement during BGI’s demoday on Nov 19th at ISCTE-IUL University

Lisbon, Nov 5th, 2015 — Following its strategy of boosting the Portuguese entrepreneurship ecosystem associated with acceleration programs, Caixa Capital has renewed its partnership with Building Global Innovators (BGI), one of the 5 accelerators to be part of “Caixa Empreender” network and awards.

Building Global Innovators (BGI) is a global technology transfer accelerator developed by ISCTE-IUL and MIT-Portugal, in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), targeting ambitious entrepreneurs and global startups in four verticals: Medical Devices and Health IT, Smart Cities & Industrial Tech, Enterprise IT & Smart Data and Ocean Economy.

Whit this partnership, Caixa Capital will invest up to 200,000 euros in a participant startup at BGI’s 2015 edition. The winner will be announced at BGI’s demoday to be held at ISCTE university on Nov 19th.

The winner will be considered for an additional investment of up to 100,000 euros as the most promising startup by competing with 5 other selected startups coming out from other accelerations programmes backed by Caixa Capital. This additional investment will be announced at the event “Caixa Empreender Award” to be held early next year at Culturgest, at the Lisbon headquarters of CGD.

BGI started in 2010 and has a track record and relevant portfolio of participants that started their business with the boost from this acceleration programme, such as Dodoc (first Portuguese startup to join TechStars, Boston) or Movvo, a ground-breaking retail tracking solution with major customers globally.
