This is so untrue, it’s hysterical. The invasion of Iraq did not foster more resilient societies, it completely destabilized the region. It was a mistake of the first order by Bush even if he was able to restore a modicum of order before his term ended. As bad as Bush was, Obama was even worse. From Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Egypt, the US spread chaos and left failed nation-states as testimony to its inept policies. The US spent $2 trillion and achieved nothing positive. By contrast, Russia intervened effectively to keep the Syrian government in power. It has real allies and influence. Under Trump the US may be making its presence felt, but over the last 16 years Russia has outplayed us like we were a JV team leading from behind.
