On This Day (April 24) : Winston Churchill Knighted By Queen Elizabeth II

24 April, 1953. Prime Minister was knighted in a ceremony by Queen Elizabeth

In 1953 Winston Churchill was invested as Knight of the Garter, becoming Sir Winston Churchill. At the time, it was his second coming as Prime Minister after being voted out of office at the end of the Second World War.

In the same year, Churchill was also awarded a Literary Nobel Peace Prize for “mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values.”
