Web Design Assignment 1 - Analyse Requirements

Summarising The Brief

The client i have chosen for this project is Broken Lens Photography. The Client, Fran McDougal is a wedding photographer and requires a website to display her work for future clients and provide them with an easy way to contact her for bookings.

Her clients would be couples looking to get married and searching for a photographer so her site will need to be a nice clear layout and display the required information in an easily accessible place.

Other than the basics like HTML and CSS, the technical requirements for this site shouldn’t be very much. The site may require Javascript for a few things. I will not be using a CMS and will be building this site from scratch.

Evaluating Social Media Options

While integrating Social Media is a great way to communicate with your clients and reach a wider range of potential customers, it can have its downside too providing clients a place to display potentially offensive comments or content which would show up on your page. e.g Twitter feed on website, get some previously client leaving rude comments.

An example of well integrated social media that i know of would be https://www.creeperhost.net/

Creeperhost provides gaming servers for clients to rent, they use a Twitter feed to let their clients know of any server downtime or other relevant news. (its at the bottom of all there pages in the footer)

For this website the client has already asked for her Facebook and Instagram accounts to be integrated into her site, she has also expressed interest in integrating some sort of blog so i’ll be looking at different blogging platforms to find a suitable one for integration.

Medium would be one choice for a blogging platform but im not sure how i could integrate it into the website so i might have to keep looking.

Design Sketches

Firstly we have the Home page, the plan is to have 4 links spread across a top menu with the logo and the title of the site. in the main content of the homepage i have some clickable tiles for images since they were to be the main focus of the website, aswell as a hyperlink to the full gallery page. then to the side i’ve placed an area for her contact details along with a link to her Facebook and Instagram.

Then we have the gallery which is largely placeholder for some text and some sort of rotating display of images.

The about page is also placeholder as im sure most of them will be, this ones just going to have a heading along with some text and hopefully a picture if i can think of something.

Lastly we have the blog page, placeholder, im still unsure what blogging platform i’ll be using so designing the layout of this page isn’t easy.
