I used to work as a street canvasser for The Wilderness Society and there was a guy there called Joss who was like a fundraising Yoda — he talked and listened to everyone with the same level of love and respect regardless of whether they agreed with his views or not. He had an infectious energy about him — like a pixie — fun and silly and irreverent and people responded to him in such a positive way. He was by far the most successful fundraiser on our team because he met people where they were at and he didn’t try to change their minds. He merely offered them respect and love and because of that they listened to him with respect and love.
