Is the hero’s journey a trap?

There are times in life when you wonder whether you are on the right path.

The wind is whipping you face, your clothes are drenched in cold rain, your feet are blistered and raw, your back is aching, you have no idea where you are and you feel desperately alone.

Everything in the world is telling you to turn back, that it is too dangerous, that the path isn’t for you, that you don’t have what it takes to walk this path.

Maybe you should listen to the world?

Maybe the hero’s journey is a trap?

Maybe the world has enough heroes and is in desperate need of people prepared to step back so that others can step forward?

Maybe striving and forcing the world to bend to your whims isn’t the answer?

Maybe the world is calling us to yield, unfold and allow rather than control, plan and force?

Maybe the future lies in the hands of those who can trust and empower others to take responsibility rather than trying to do everything themselves?

Maybe it isn’t about working hard or working smart but working with heart?

Maybe real leadership is invisible and isn’t characterised by bent backs, furrowed brows, blood, sweat and tears?

Maybe real leadership is joyful, light, compassionate, generous, patient, loving, present, silly, playful and fun?

Maybe?

It can’t hurt to try.
