Day 14 — Po’aha
The lyrics in the song are fab!! But Evan and I would like to use them to as a way to serenade Kauai’i instead of the romantical ballad as the song was intended to be. We are huge fans of the Common Kings and this song is from our Kauai Vibes playlist. We love it and want to share it as our trip has come to its’ end……. SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SAD :-(
So today is the day, it’s the last of our trip, and I am feeling just so so sad. I am struggling with leaving my paradise, this enormously beautiful land that is my happy place. Although we do have to go, we know that before too very long, we will return again (I’m thinking like 6 months tops).
However, on a really positive note, at 11 o’clock this morning we have an appointment…. That’s right, we are taking the plunge….. WE ARE GETTING TATTOOS!!! Fooled most of you didn’t I? No we did not get married, sorry folks, not this time. Ev and I decided on a whim that we would get ourselves matching honu tattoos from Beau @ Farsyde Tattoos in Koloa. The honu idea was ours but the designs were entirely up to Beau and let me tell you, he nailed it. Now I’m sure some of you are asking what the heck a honu is right? Well a honu is simply the Hawaiian name for a turtle, which are believed to be incredibly spiritual and have great meaning. So much that I won’t write about it but will attach a link that you can check out to learn more about it. They turned out fabulous, the pain was minimal, and they symbolize a bond that Ev and I share that cannot and will not ever be broken. You all know about the curse that comes with inking your spouse’s name on your body right? Chances are great that if you do it, it will only be a matter of time before you’re lawyering up and dividing assets. It’s the truth, I’m telling you. For that reason, we chose to get, not matching, but very similar honus. I love me some tattoos, but I love my Evan more.

So with our newly inked calves looking stellar and fresh, we headed home to finish packing and tidying up. Although I was still on a bit of an adrenaline high, I was still feeling so so very sad about having to say good-bye. I hate good-byes to begin with but this feeling was just ridiculous. I chalked it up to having had one of the best vacations of my life and discovering so many things about myself, about Evan and I as a couple, and about the island of Kaua’i.
Packing up post-vacation is always so much harder than packing up pre-vacation. You’d think that at some point you wouldn’t find much more to buy that you don’t already have because you bought it last time or the time before right…. Think again, we manage to do it every time. It was like a game of Tetris fitting all our garb back into our suitcases, but we managed and we would only have to pay for 1 overweight bag, not 2. This was it, we were leaving suite 302 at the Price Kuhio.
Driving the highway to Lihue from Koloa isn’t nearly as exciting this time but it’s impossible not to just relish in the beauty that surrounds you at every single second. So, we were off, heading straight to Hamura Saimin, or Auntie’s Noodles as we like to call it for our pre-flight dinner. My word is that place the bees knees. Anyone going has to check it out:
Mahalo nui loa for reading my friends, warmest Aloha to you all.
I love the feeling of who I am when I am here. The way I can throw anything over my body and head out the door. No allergies, no inhalers, and no stuffy nose!! No fuss no muss, simple, organic and beachy. I have suffered from, and continue to battle anxiety and depression, but here, I just don’t feel it. Now most of you are probably thinking really Jamey, you’re on vacation, no wonder you feel so great. Am I right? Well I don’t think it’s just that. I think that the island life and living with aloha spirit is how I need to spend the rest of my life. I know it, I feel it and I believe, with all my heart and soul. Hawaii isn’t a place, it’s a way of life.
So with my last post from our last trip finally under my belt, I am super stoked to be able to tell you that in just two short weeks from today, April 7th, we will return to the Garden Isle. With as much aloha spirit as last time, an established blog, and our not-so-baby boy by our sides. I promise new adventures, oodles of photos featuring a “Where’s Waldo” type of twist. Now I got y’all thinking “What the H-E double hockey sticks is she talking about?”. Am I right? Well my friends, you’ll soon find out. I look forward to sharing our next great adventure with you all real real soon. Stay awesome and
LIVE
