Day 8 — Po’alima

He la nani keia la ❤

This morning, our first back in the south, we went to Starbucks for a coffee and walked Po’ipū Beach hoping we’d get to a seal or turtle, but no such luck. So instead, we walked the sandy beach from one end to the other.

All of a sudden it hit me! I had this epiphany. I had to take a moment to stop and really think about where I was, appreciate how it made me feel. I can’t explain it very well but its like all of a sudden everything comes into focus, who you are, what you really want, and where your soul so simply says “Aaaaaahhhhhhhhh”. Has anyone really stopped to think about Hawaii, or better yet Kauai? I mean there is this set of islands out in the middle of the ocean, just sitting there, seeming so random and almost like outcasts. Then you get on them and think about the life that exists here. How is it even possible? And lets face it, we aren’t talking some deserted island, barren and desolate, these islands are alive, full of life, aloha, and the best of everything.

Carrying on, we made a stop at Big Save to get a few things for the condo. Got to love the Big Save, I love me some Big Save. Now that we actually had a full size fridge and an actual stove, we could potentially cook our meals again. Please note that when I say “potentially”, I mean that I have the best of intentions to cook, however we all know how things don’t always turn out the way we plan. I’ve noticed that almost everyone you meet from the mainland vacationing here talks about how expensive it is, but for us Canadians, it’s very comparable to home. We definitely have a leg up on them in that respect, GO CANADA, CANADIANS ROCK. In all reality, Big Save is kind of your only option so loosen up the purse strings or you’re SOL (Shit Outta Luck)

So we decided to pack a picnic lunch and head to Salt Ponds Beach for some snorkeling and some south shore sunshine. We decided to go off the beaten path, and when I say that I don’t mean it it literally, I really just mean off the main highway, into Kalaheo for a look at some more of the community. That was it, we knew right then, this is where we’d like to spend as much of the rest of our lives as we can. Ocean view on one side, mountain view to the other. Really, what more could you ask for. Its’ home to a Brick Oven Pizza, The Right Slice Pie Co., Pizza Hut, you name it, its’ got it. That is our future home, mark my words. Some amazing properties up there, all with a hefty price tag I am sure, but dreamers be dreaming.

I call this the University of Snorkeling (perfect place to learn how breath and swim at the same time)
Salt Ponds Beach at it’s busiest. LOVE IT ❤

Now that’s a big flower or I have a small head ;-)

Stopped in at Garden island Grille for a Maui Wowi (we have got to bring Dave and Sheri something Canadian for their place). Sat at the bar, chatted with them both for some time, all the while enjoying ourselves a Primo and a Maui Wowi. Good thing we had other plans, otherwise one bevvy could have easily turned to a few or more and possibly my first Hawaiian hangover. We were on our way to the Hanapēpē Art Walk, I had to be there at 6 o’clock sharp to get in line at The Right Slice for their Chocolate Macaroon pie, a lil taste of heaven in just one slice. Much aloha to those gals. Got my pie for later but we were starving. After some asking around, we decided to give Bobbie’s a try. BBQ, BBQ, BBQ. My oh my, I had the chicken and Evan had the pork. Listen guys, for $12.95 you get the most food I have ever seen. I, Jamey, got an entire half a BBQ’d chicken, 2 scoops of sticky rice and a tossed salad. Holy ballz, I barely put a dent in it. Evan got the pork, fall off the bone, melt in your mouth pile of fresh off the Barbie pork. It was brilliant and now we were stuffed to the point that our walk was more like a waddle…..not cool. Still though, Bobbie’s comes highly recommended by yours truly. In fact, we are starting to consider ourselves to be quite the foodies, we go for the food, we love or hate the food, and then we write about the food. Sounds like either a couple of foodies, or wanna be food critics, jury’s still out.

Live music every night, right here on this stage
A quick glimpse of the new and improved Garden Island Grille (yes, it’s grille with an ‘e’)
Happy Hour @ 4:20, brilliant, just brilliant

On our way home, we needed to stop for ant traps, dang buggers made a home outta Evan’s Star Wars Lucky Charms and Mini Wheats. We showed them though, R A I D, just like the commercials, I swear, that’s how it works, just like they say.

With another stellar day under our belts, it was time to chill with Dead Fred and Presley, our new ukes. There was a lot of noise, some sweet some not so sweet. Most of mine was really just noise, but the finest noise an uke can make.
