Update South Africa

Celebrating local Bloggers in Cape Town, and Beyond

Think interesting people and a very diverse, multifaceted country — then discover and follow blogs written well, about a multitude of topics appealing to a global audience.

Recently, I started a survey leading to featuring bloggers and their sites via @CapeTown and other curated accounts. And I am having SUCH fun reading new blogs. Complete the Survey here if interested to connect, please.

The intention of this List is really simple — to aggregate bloggers in South Africa for an easy find. And to support their tireless writing with a shout-out here and there. Hours are spend to write up good content for us and the most we could do, is to share it and read it. In any order… And better yet: Let’s leave a Comment

Here in South Africa I know of two award ceremonies that recognise bloggers:

SA Blog Awards

African Blogger Awards

And then there is this nice uber-blog for mothers that blog :-) called SAMomBlogs

Maybe you know others?

So let’s get Going with the List — in no particular order, starting with a featured blog under each category/topic:

Fashion:

stylesociety.co.za

Blogger: Kumari Govender

Kumari Govender: publishes a creative mix of fashion and beauty editorials incorporating cutting edge style, avant-garde fashion trends, street style obsessions and travel finds that inspires her readers to look beyond the conventional when developing their own personal style.

Lifestyle:

Hi I am Fiona Rossiter the writer and editor of Inspired Living SA. I created Inspired Living as a magazine style lifestyle website focusing on Beauty, Decor, Fashion and Travel. I extremely lucky to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world — Cape Town. I am Proudly South African and will always call this my home.

Sport:

bowlphilosophy.com

Still getting a handle on this blog, but it delivers relevant sports news for (mostly) rugby followers. The Bowl Philosophy also features a Humour category worth looking at… and if you support the ‘Green and Gold’ you will enjoy this Blog.

Food :

pomegranatedays.co.za

I share my life and my home with Dear Husband and our two blond children. After 12 years together Dear Husband still makes me laugh and he always makes me proud. We share a love of food and wine and face cream. Our weekends are planned around what we will eat and despite the fact that he continually seems surprised when the food I cook tastes great, Dear Husband is my most constructive and genuine critic… I have one food philosophy and that is that “life is complicated, but food is simple”. My heart is that just by visiting Pomegranate Days you will be inspired to create something wonderful in your own kitchen.

Technology:

womenintech.co.za

This Blog is edited/maintained by Samantha Perry, a freelance journalist with 17 years experience writing for a range of media — print and online — mainly in the ICT sector. Samantha writes for Brainstorm magazine, Mail & Guardian, several niche B2B titles and several corporate clients. She also has a Masters degree in ICT Policy & Regulation, and serves as the director for research and analysis for the FTTH Council Africa. She works as an independent telecoms researcher for some of the analyst houses in that field and is regularly called upon to comment on telecoms issues in the press.

The plan is to feature many more blogs and also complete a comprehensive List of Bloggers. If you are keen to find updates from these blogs, please follow @mzansiBlogs in Twitter. And if in Cape Town, tag your entries #capeblogPost so we can discover and share them. Thanks!

I have also just started Blogger ‘Eat-Outs’ with local bloggers, and hope to meet some of you in person for a dinner, sponsored by The Entertainer. Oh! and if you have read this post up to this point, you qualify for a freebie — a month’s membership with #EntertainerZA. Just contact me via the website, and see more information here.

Oh, and visit my own new little blog when you have a moment:

iAmBlogging — Live and Curate Life

As an early-adopter of disruptive technologies, I have registered my first Twitter account in 2006 and experienced the platform’s growth intimately — as social media emerged into mainstream communication in the world.

My first love is impact investment and business development — specifically in the startup IT and educational industries. I am a social innovator working across Africa. You will find that I use only my first name and handle @iAmnotMany for privacy reasons in the field of Online Community Management and Digital Content Strategy and Placement services.

I am excited to join other bloggers and share some of my experiences with you. Happy Blogging!
