Steve Bannon is the most dangerous man in politics

I beg you to keep your eyes on Steve “I Want Destruction Of The State” Bannon.

He has what Trump does not: a plan, focus, determination, and an agenda beyond “I, me, mine.” And he has enough savvy to get what he wants.
His and Trump’s sordid White House affair was beneficial for both of them. Bannon’s fierce, foaming ideological mix of populism and anarchocapitalism found voice in Trump’s call to “drain the swamp”, and Trump’s ability to play to his audience gave Bannon’s Breitbart faithfuls a louder voice and a stronger fist. But — and thank heavens for this — Bannon had some accountability in the White House; that is, he had to compete with the other voices wanting Trump’s ear. He lost, and fell from the White House’s grace.

Notice I didn’t say Trump’s.

There’s a reason Bannon is — and has been this whole time — Trump’s chief strategist. The man knows what he’s doing. In an article in the Washington Post on August 17th, editor of the American Prospect, Robert Kuttner, said that Bannon may be the most media-savvy person in America. He’s definitely the most media-savvy person in this administration, so we must take with deep suspicion and hard questioning Bannon’s decision to initiate a conversation with Kuttner, who heads a leftist publication. Bannon is media-savvy enough to know that if he’s talking to a reporter, that conversation is going on record. He knew that everything he told that reporter was going to end up sprayed across the internet, so we have to take into account that Bannon did what he did and said what he said for a reason, even if that reason is just more confusion, obfuscation, and division. This is part of a plan.

What alarms me more than that is that he seems coated with Teflon in regards to the Russia investigation. Ever notice how often his name hasn’t come up? I could rattle off numerous theories for this, from the mundane to the truly whacked-out. Whatever your choice of conspiracy theory, though, one would be exceedingly hard pressed to convince me Bannon’s name is absent from the investigation because there is nothing incriminating him. Every day we uncover new layers of collaboration between the Russians and the Trumps and their associates. Bannon hasn’t been involved with the Trumps for all that long, but I just can’t bring myself to believe Bannon is squeaky clean.

Bannon is unchained, and his baby Breitbart has declared all-out war on the White House (notice I didn’t say Trump). Which unfortunately means, by extension, the entire country.

And he has the savvy — and the money, now that he’s taken Trump’s chief donor Robert Mercer away from him — to do it. Trump’s own ignorance and hamfistedness will, as it has in the past, keep cutting his legs out from under him. Bannon is too smart for that, and that makes him, to me, the most dangerous person in politics right now.
