Xposed Support, Clarification, and Information
Some of you may have noticed that there’s a version (unofficial) of Xposed Framework for Nougat making its rounds. XDA has a decent writeup of it here: https://www.xda-developers.com/flashable-xposed-framework-android-nougat/
Unlike previous versions, this isn’t flashible on top of any existing ROM — it must be compiled into it, from scratch. To be clear, no, Carbon has no plans to include this, for a myriad of reasons: technical, logistical, and philosophical.
That being said, we at Carbon have never officially supported or endorced Xposed, but we _have_ gone out of our way for years past to be as Xposed-friendly as possible for those that wish to use it directly from the official source. We strive to only commit ART and Framework changes that will not break Xposed’s functionality, or alter the behaviours of the methods it uses, so that if our end users wish to install Xposed, they can do so secure in the knowledge that it should work as well as stock AOSP. That will certainly continue, and we wish rovo89 the best of luck in getting the Nougat version of Xposed out, officially, through the usual flashible overlay zip he’s always provided with out requiring ART modules to be compiled into source.
Just because we aren’t going to be including it ourselves, however, doesn’t mean you can’t compile Xposed into Carbon yourself. The XDA post linked above has instructions that may help, and while it’s entirely unsupported by the Carbon team (please don’t ask us for help), we’re pretty sure it won’t bring about the catpocalypse (though, we are wholely unresponsible for this, or any other side effects relating, including bricking your device or wiping your data).
Aside from the “how to”, if you do have any questions, just shoot them to us over on social media or support@carbonrom.org and we’ll answer as soon as we can. We promise to read every email and comment, but obviously can’t reply to everything — but we’ll do our best (we do have lives, too, you know).
Thanks, and we can’t wait to bring you guys more news as we can!
