In an effort to quickly bring technology and innovation into the Air Force to solve problems, the Air Force announced its upcoming New York City Pitch Day. March 6 and March 7, 2019 are the days where $40 million will be made available to startups, academia, and small businesses who will pitch their proposal to Air Force leaders. Using the tagline “[c]ontracting at the speed of innovation,” the Air Force aims to provide fast contracts that are one page long.
Per the Air Force’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) website, Dr Will Roper, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics is quoted as saying “Pitch Days are new fast tracks for startups to work with the Air Force. Modeled after commercial investment pitch competitions, our goal is to award $40 million to startups using one-day, one-page contracts. These awards use convenient credit card payments — we want partnering with the Air Force to be easy and energizing!”
Companies have 30 days to submit their pitch deck and proposals which began on January 8, 2019 and ends on February 6, 2019. After reviewing the proposal and pitch decks, some companies will receive an invite to attend the NYC Pitch Day. Development contracts for the initial phase could be up to $158,000 and notification to the selected companies will occur by February 15, 2019.
The Air Force added on their SBIR website, “[m]any mind-blowing ideas are being birthed in U.S. startup companies, but the Pentagon largely misses out on them. For our big bureaucracy, awarding a contract in months is a flash.“ For a video on the event, visit https://www.dvidshub.net/video/650930/air-force-pitch-day
